Last week, Elijah Blake blessed us with his new album, “Audiology” and it doesn’t disappoint. The modern R&B singer released his debut album in 2012, but didn’t receive industry recognition until 2015 with his singles “Everyday” and “I Just Wanna”. The singer/songwriter has written for Keyshia Cole and Rihanna. Now with his sophomore album, he is ready to make a bigger mark in on the music scene. He’s returned to his independent roots and you can hear that difference throughout the album.
You can hear the freedom in every track as each track is a mix of funky 80s inspiration, 90’s sexy R&B, acoustic melodies and modern hip & hop. Artists are often confined to their label’s image of what they should be and the music they should make. Blake comes into his own on this album. “Technicolor” is the lead single from the album and immediately reminded me of some classic Prince tracks. My favorite thus far is the smooth love song, “California Livin’”.
Give his new album a listen and let me know what you think in the comments section below. You are sure to dance and hum along as you play. Learn more about Elijah Blake and find tour dates here.
