This weekend is one of the busiest weekends in Music City. The CMT Awards were Wednesday night, CMA Fest kicked off yesterday AND Bonnaroo is also going on down the highway. I had the pleasure of attending the CMT Awards with People Magazine this year. This was my 2nd year attending and it’s always a good time.
The awards were hosted by one of my favorite country bands, Little Big Town. The highlights of the night for me were Kelly Clarkson‘s performance of Lenny Kravitz’s “American Woman: and Backstreet Boys performing their new single. Carrie Underwood also performed and she has one of the most amazing voices and spirit. I will say I think Carrie, Kelly, Beyonce, Jessie J, Christina A and Pink are the top female vocalists out right now.
After the show, it’s the after party lol. We went to the official People Magazine after party. It was held at the beautiful Nashville Symphony Center. I met Brooke Hogan and Christy Metz from one of my favorite TV shows, This is Us. I didn’t stay the whole night because I’m old and usually don’t go out on school nights. I still had a great time though.
Today, I’m heading downtown to some of the free day events. All of Broadway is shut down with stages and fun vendor tents. That’s one of the great things about CMA week, there are ALOT of free options. You can always find free music in Nashville on Broadway, but that is amplified this week. There was a joke during the show that Broadway has now become country singer’s row because they have all opened branded bars on the street. Jason Aldean and Blake Shelton used the CMT Awards for the official grand openings of their two places on Broadway. You also have Dierk Bently’s Whiskey Row and Florida Georgia Line’s FGL House. I’m sure there are more coming as at least 6 buildings are currently under construction.
You can find details about CMA Fest Here. The nighttime stage is the Cracker Barrel Country Roads Stage at Ascend Amphitheater will have free music at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 7-9 p.m., with the featured artists including Chase Rice, Lee Brice and Cole Swindell.
Are you going to CMA or Bonnaroo this weekend? If you’re not are you planning on attending next year?
love,
Leigh
